Vol. 411 No. 6

Written Answers. - Patient Status Identification.

Joe Sherlock

Ceist:

56 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for Health if he intends to introduce regulations to give effect to the provision of the Health (Amendment) Act, 1991 requiring a patient to declare, on admission, whether they are private or public patients, especially in view of the confusion that has arisen in many hospitals on this matter.

All public hospitals have been instructed to ensure that the clear identification of the status of every patient, as either the public or private patient of the consultant, is carried out. My Department will be involved in the continuous monitoring of the operation of the new eligibility arrangements to ensure that the requirements of the new system, including the identification of the status of every patient, is carried out.
