Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

189 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education the current position in relation to the provision of extra facilities at St. Brigid's national school, Brownstown, Curragh, County Kildare; her views on the need to provide these facilities forthwith; if she will outline (1) the full extent of facilities to be provided (2) the schedule of provision and (3) the availability of the necessary finance currently or in 1992; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose taking Questions Nos. 64 and 189 together.

I am aware of the need for updating existing conditions at Brownstown national school, County Kildare. My Department's officials are having ongoing discussions with the school authorities regarding the provision of a new replacement national school. This scheme was agreed with the school chairman of the board of management in September 1990. Since that date a sketch scheme has been prepared by the Department's architect. This sketch scheme has been forwarded to the chairman to enable him to seek planning approval. Planning approval has been received and full working drawings will now to prepared in order that the scheme may progress.
