Vol. 412 No. 1
71 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs whether he supports the call from the South African Patriotic Front for a constituent assembly to decide that country's future.
I welcome the opportunity to express support for the agreement by all members of the recently established Patriotic Front to join in multi-party talks. We hope that these talks will begin in the very near future and lead without delay to formal constitutional negotiations for a new, united, democratic and non-racial South Africa. As to the structures for these negotiations, the Government believe that this is something for the parties in South Africa to decide and agree upon.
