Vol. 412 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Seán Barrett

Ceist:

87 Mr. S. Barrett asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason a person (details supplied) in County Dublin is still awaiting unemployment benefit for a period dating back to August 1990; and if he will confirm that steps have been taken to ensure that his former employer pays over the PRSI deducted to his Department.

The person concerned applied for unemployment benefit on 20 November 1990 but was disallowed because the company for whom he stated he worked from 4 November 1987 to 1 September 1990 as a director and manager had not paid his PRSI contributions. He ceased signing the unemployed register on the 11 December 1990. He re-applied for unemployment benefit on 5 September 1991. His PRSI contributions had still not been paid and following an investigation to help confirm that contributions were payable in respect of his employment, a demand has been made for these contributions from his former employer. When the contributions have been paid his entitlement to benefit will be reconsidered.
