Ceist:103 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Health if he has satisfied himself that the new consultation fees for first office consultation of between £50 and £80 for consultant physicians is reasonable and fair.

I assume that the Deputy is referring to the proposed scale of fees which the Irish Hospital Consultants Association have recommended to their members in respect of the treatment of private patients. The setting of private fees is a matter in which I have no function. However, there are aspects of the manner in which this scale of fees has been set that I am considering with colleagues of mine in Government.
