Vol. 412 No. 2

Written Answers. - Army Recruitment.

Jim Mitchell

Ceist:

123 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Defence when the Army will next be recruiting new soldiers; whether this will be by a new competition or from an existing list; if he will outline the likely number to be recruited in the next 12 months; and whether former soldiers, discharged with a good record, will receive any preference in recruiting.

It is not possible at present to indicate when the next intake of general service Army recruits will take place. The matter is being kept under review in the light of operational requirements.

A decision on whether to use existing lists or to hold further interviews will be made at the appropriate time.

Previous military service is taken into account by the military authorities when assessing the suitability of candidates for enlistment.
