Written Answers. - Remedial Teacher Appointment.

76 Mr. Cotter asked the Minister for Education the names of the primary schools or groups of primary schools in County Monaghan for which an application for a remedial teacher was submitted to her Department by 1 February 1991; and if she will name the primary schools or groups of primary schools which received sanction to appoint a remedial teacher for the 1991-1992 school year; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

My Department had received 14 applications for remedial teachers from primary schools in County Monaghan by 1 February 1991. I am pleased to say that two posts were allocated to the county and the teachers in question are serving seven schools in the area.

These appointments were made following the recent allocation of 80 additional remedial posts under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress. These additional posts will service over 240 schools.
