13 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for Labour if he will make a statement regarding the amending protocol to the European Social Charter of the Council of Europe and outline whether Ireland has yet ratified the protocol or will do so shortly.
The amending protocol to the European Social Charter of the Council of Europe opened for signature on 21 October 1991.
Ireland is a contracting party to the charter but has not yet signed the protocol. My Department are currently examining and assessing its implications and as soon as this examination is completed, the question of the signature of the protocol will be submitted to the Government for decision. I hope the decision can be taken in the near future.
