Vol. 413 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Cork RTE.

P. J. Sheehan

Ceist:

111 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if his attention has been drawn to the poor television and radio reception in certain areas of south-west Cork, particularly in the area from the Abbey, Skibbereen to Mohonagh; and if he will outline the steps he proposes to take to install a booster to give a reasonable reception in that particular area.

This is primarily a matter for RTE. RTE accept that reception in certain locations in Skibbereen and its surrounds is not as good as RTE would like it to be. Due to the nature of the local terrain full radio and television coverage of the area is difficult to achieve.

RTE are currently carrying out a number of television and FM radio reception surveys in west Cork and Kerry including the Skibbereen area. This work is unlikely to be completed until early 1992 and, while RTE have no plans at this time for a local transmitter for the Skibbereen area, the position will be reviewed on the completion of the survey.
