Vol. 413 No. 5

Written Answers. - FCA Regimental Duties Costs.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

207 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Defence the cost from January, 1990 to June, 1991, of regimental duties performed by the FCA other than annual training; if all allowances payable to permanent Defence Force personnel for these duties were paid to the FCA; and, if not, the average additional cost which would arise if these duties were performed by permanent Defence Force personnel.

The cost from January 1990 to June 1991 of regimental duties performed by members of An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil not on annual training amounted to approximately £150,000. Members of the FCA do not receive security duty allowance — they are paid a day's pay for performing such duties.

If these duties were performed by members of the permanent Defence Force, there would be no additional cost involved as the amount payable for security duty allowance would be less than the amount payable for FCA pay.
