Ceist:

198 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline (a) the amount of moneys from the EC Structural Funds which have been spent under the aegis of his Department in (1) 1988, (2) 1989 and (3) 1990 and (b) the amount of matching funds which were spent by his Department for each year; if he will list the projects which were funded by such funds; if he will further outline the amount of funds which have been committed for 1991; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The only EC Structural Funds received by my Department are grants from the European Social Fund in respect of training of persons in custody who are preparing for and seeking employment. The amounts received in 1988, 1989 and 1990 were £60,405, £66,180 and £50,232, respectively.

In 1988 and 1989 these grants were received on the basis that 45 per cent of the expenditure on the projects in question would be funded by the Exchequer. In 1990 and 1991, the ratio of Exchequer funding required was reduced to 35 per cent.

Expected receipts from the European Social Fund in 1991 are £203,184.
