123 Mrs. Fennell asked the Minister for Defence if he will outline in respect of his Department (1) the number of Government contracts which are in force, (2) whether all contracts are renewed each year and (3) if all contracts are granted as a result of tendering to the most competitive estimate.
Contracts for the supply of equipment and other requirements for my Department are awarded on the basis of competitive tendering in accordance with Government contracts procedure. Such contracts are placed as required on the basis of either the lowest suitable tender or the most economically advantageous offer. As the number of contracts varies from time to time, the total number of contracts currently in force is not readily available.
