Vol. 414 No. 1

Written Answers. - Set-Aside Land.

Paul Bradford

Ceist:

73 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the name and location of golf clubs where agricultural land was or is to be converted for use as a golf club; if a grant was approved for such conversion; if so, the amounts paid in each case; and if he will outline the general conditions which apply so that this type of activity can be enumerated.

I presume the Deputy is referring to golfing facilities on land set aside from agriculture under EC arrangements or grant aided under the Community's agri-tourism scheme.

I understand that in four cases set-aside land is being used for this purpose. The only payment made in these cases is the EC set-aside premium, which stands at £86.25 per acre.

The EC's agri-tourism scheme is operated by Bord Fáilte and Shannon Development on behalf of my Department. To be eligible for the EC's grant aid projects must satisfy the general conditions of the agri-tourism scheme. I am advised that 27 golfing projects have been approved. The estimated grant aid payable in these cases is £790,000. No grant has been paid to date.

It is not the practice to give details of individual cases.
