Vol. 414 No. 4

Written Answers. - Evaluation of Road Projects.

John Bruton

Ceist:

162 Mr. J. Bruton, Mr. J. Mitchell, Miss Flaherty, Mr. Connor and Mr. Carey asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a study is being carried out in Britain on the possibility of assigning monetary values to the environmental impact of roads, with a view to incorporating such values into the evaluation of road projects; and if he will initiate a similar study here.

I am aware of studies by the UK Department of Transport on the allocation of monetary costs and values to possible environmental impacts of road projects. Pending completion of these and other studies of this nature, and an assessment of their results, it would be premature to consider similar studies here.
