240 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Education the reason a person (details supplied) in County Sligo does not qualify for grant aid for his university post graduate course despite his very considerable success in his degree course.
I have had inquiries made in the matter and I understand that the person in question is not eligible for a grant under the higher education grants scheme, due to the fact that he does not have the required attainments in the relevant leaving certificate (1987).
I understand, also, that his application for the award of a vocational education committee scholarship is still under consideration by the relevant committee.
