42 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Marine if he will outline the expenditure and nature of works being undertaken by his Department at Blacksod, County Mayo in respect of helicopter facilities; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
The Commissioners of Irish Lights acting as agents for my Department tendererd for the upgrading of their helicopter site at Blacksod, County Mayo, to provide a 24 hour refuelling facility for SAR helicopters.
The contract work includes the building of a helipad, installation of bulk fuel pumps, telephones and all necessary electrical work. The contractor went on site on 30 September 1991. Work is on target. Weather permitting, it is expected that the contract will be completed by the end of the year.
Expenditure of £70,000 has been incurred to date.
