Vol. 414 No. 4

Written Answers. - Removal of Beach Materials.

Mary Coughlan

Ceist:

52 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for the Marine the action being taken by his Department to prevent people removing material from the beach at Brenten, Dunkineely, County Donegal; and if he will investigate such incidents and ensure they will not re-occur.

I can advise the Deputy that the removal of beach material from the sea-shore at Brenter, Dunkineely is unauthorised and, in order to deal with specific instances of such removal, my Department will arrange for the serving of prohibitory notices under the Foreshore Act, 1933 on named individuals if the relevant particulars are furnished to me. (Such a notice was already served on one individual relating to the area in question in January 1990).

Consideration could also be given to the introduction of a prohibitory order, under the 1933 Act, for the area of sea-shore in question if the relevant county council were to formally request the making of such an order.
