74 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Finance when it is envisaged that works by the Office of Public Works will be completed on Tintern Abbey in County Wexford; and if he will outline the schedule for the completion of works in this regard.
A plan for the completion of conservation and for limited restoration at Tintern Abbey, by the end of 1995, has been prepared. This will be done, provided finance is available, by a combination of direct labour and contract work.
The plan includes: restoration of the south transept chapels with access from the chancel; conservation of the nave and chancel; restoration of the tower; restoration of the gatehouse and stables as a visitor centre and landscaping, access road and car-parking.
