91 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will consider introducing (1) a scheme of grants for extension to dwelling houses where overcrowding conditions prevail and (2) a new scheme of house reconstruction dwellings that are in acute need of repair.
A Plan for Social Housing introduced a new scheme under which local authorities may extend or improve the existing accommodation of approved applicants for local authority housing as an alternative to rehousing them in local authority housing. This scheme is particularly appropriate where the need for local authority housing arises from overcrowding. I have no proposals to introduce a new scheme of reconstruction grants.
