Vol. 414 No. 5

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grant Applications.

Brian Cowen

Ceist:

110 Mr. Cowen asked the Minister for Education if he will reconsider the refusal to give a higher education grant to a person (details supplied) in County Offaly.

The administration of the higher education grants scheme is statutorily entrusted to the local authorities.

I am having the matter in question investigated with Offaly County Council, which is the relevant local authority in this case. I will let the Deputy know of the outcome as soon as possible.

Garrett Fitzgerald

Ceist:

111 Dr. G. FitzGerald asked the Minister for Education when a person (details supplied) in Dublin 6 can expect a decision on his application of July 1991 for a higher education grant.

The case in question has been referred to my Department by the local authority for clarification as to the applicant's entitlements under the higher education grants scheme.

This case together with a number of similar cases has raised a general policy issue and this is being considered at present. It is hoped to convey a decision to the local authority shortly and I shall inform the Deputy of the outcome.
