Vol. 414 No. 10

Written Answers. - School Transport Service.

Michael Lowry

Ceist:

122 Mr. Lowry asked the Minister for Education if school transport to Lorrha national school, Nenagh, County Tipperary will be restored immediately to an adequate level in accordance with the submission to his Department from the local parents' association as there was a serious depletion when the service was withdrawn from a number of children during the present school term which caused much inconvenience and hardship; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As the parents make clear in their submission, the five children in question are all ineligible for school transport to Lorrha national school. They could only be granted the concession of fare-paying transport if accommodation was available after all the eligible children were catered for. This is not the case here.

As there was no longer a continuing need for the larger bus for the transport of eligible pupils, it had to be withdrawn.
