Vol. 414 No. 10

Written Answers. - Offaly Train Derailment Report.

Ivan Yates

Ceist:

126 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if he has received a report from the CIE management on the recent train derailment near Ballycumber, County Offaly; and, if not, when he expects to receive such a report.

A preliminary report into the circumstances of the derailment near Ballycumber, County Offaly on 30 September last has been submitted to me by Iarnród éireann. The report has been examined by the railway inspecting officer and recommendations have been made by him to Iarnród éireann to reduce the risk of similar accidents occuring in the future.

I have been advised by the chairman of CIE that he expects to submit the final inquiry report to me shortly.
