Vol. 415 No. 1

Written Answers. - Ordnance Survey Re-Location.

Michael Bell

Ceist:

150 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to (a) the severe hardship that is being created by the transfer of the Ordnance Survey for the north eastern region to County Longford and (b) the total opposition of IMPACT to the reassignment of staff to this location; if he will agree that on a geographical basis and in the interest of both the services provided and the families of staff members, a location in County Louth or County Monaghan will help to resolve this difficult problem; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

On the basis of the recommendations of the Ordnance Survey office, the following locations were selected for the regional offices: Cork, Ennis, Kilkenny, Longford, Sligo and Tuam.

The choice of these locations was influenced by the following factors: the advice of the Office of Public Works as to the availability of office accommodation; the existing distribution of the field staff; the survey's work programme and the equitable distribution of staff in accordance with the Government's programme for the establishment of civil service offices in rural locations.

I have no proposals to change these locations.
