Vol. 415 No. 1

Written Answers. - Commital of Person to Prison.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

282 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to the case of a person (details supplied) in County Dublin who was jailed recently for non payment of a fine; if a petition was made to him in respect of this person; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The person referred to by the Deputy was committed to prison on 23 November 1991 to serve five days imprisonment in default of payment of a fine imposed by the court. The person was released two days later on payment of the balance of the fine outstanding.

There is no record in my Department of any petition having been made by or on behalf of the person referred to.
