Vol. 415 No. 1

Written Answers. - Kerry Road Improvements.

Dick Spring

Ceist:

316 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give details of requests which he has received from Kerry County Council for financing national primary and national secondary road improvements; and if he has satisfied himself that Kerry County Council is in a position to proceed with the work as soon as finance is provided.

Proposals for improvement schemes for national roads submitted by Kerry County Council in recent years are listed in the following schedule. The list includes cases not yet approved, cases on which further information is awaited, and cases where outline approval has been given but without commitment to financing.

As the funds available for national road improvement schemes are never sufficient to fund all such proposals submitted to my Department, it is the practice of local authorities to complete preparatory work only on those schemes which are likely to be funded in the short term. I am satisfied that Kerry County Council has completed, or is in a position rapidly to complete, preparatory work on any schemes which are likely to receive an allocation in the near future.
