Ceist:388 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Health if she will make additional funds available to the health boards, in order to enable them to comply with the new EC nursing directives.

The implementation of EC Directive 89/595 in Ireland will involve the provision of an additional 12 weeks theoretical instruction of students entering general nurse training from spring 1992. Implementation will be phased in over the next three years. My Department are currently discussing with nurse training schools the additional resource requirements in relation to teaching and service replacement which will arise from the directive.
Some additional funding is being provided in 1992 in this context.
