Ceist:61 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Energy if he will outline his plans, if any, to link towns and villages in County Kildare to the national gas grid; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Gas Grid Extension.
Bord Gáis Éireann (BGE) has a statutory obligation to develop and maintain a system for the supply of natural gas on a commercial basis. Accordingly, proposals for the extension of the gas distribution grid are a matter for Bord Gáis Éireann and are assessed by the board in the light of that obligation.
I am advised by the board that it will be extending the natural gas supply to the new Intel project in Leixlip, County Kildare, in 1992. Once this supply is in place, BGE will then consider the extension of the supply to other businesses and households in Leixlip and other nearby areas in Kildare.
