Vol. 415 No. 1

Written Answers. - Whitegate Oil Products.

Peter Barry

Ceist:

83 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Energy if he will make a statement on the proposal of the Culliton Review Group that the compulsory 35 per cent take-off at Whitegate should be discontinued.

The Culliton Review Group expressed doubts as to whether the mandatory off-take regime from Whitegate was justified on grounds of maintaining a secure domestic supply of energy. They concluded therefore that the mandatory off-take should be discontinued.

The group also suggested that a task force be established to follow up on the implementation of the recommendations put forward in their report. In line with this, the Government have decided to establish such a committee. My Department and I will co-operate fully with the committee. The specific point in this recommendation is one requiring the deepest consideration, given its far-reaching implications.
