Vol. 415 No. 4

Written Answers. - Curlews By-Pass.

Gerry Reynolds

Ceist:

68 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for the Environment if an aerial survey of the Roscommon/Sligo border and Lough Arrow has been conducted to help to determine the most suitable route for the proposed Curlews by-pass on the N4.

The scheme for the Curlews by-pass is currently at design stage. As an aid to determining the best route alignment, an aerial survey was carried out in 1988 and 1989 along the length of a route corridor which was then being considered, including a section in the vicinity of Lough Arrow and the Roscommon-Sligo border. An alternative proposal for part of the route close to Lough Arrow and where the scheme would cross the Roscommon-Sligo boundary is being examined at present as the alignment previously proposed for this section is considered unsuitable due to ground conditions. There has been no aerial survey in respect of this alternative alignment but a detailed ground survey has been carried out.
