Vol. 415 No. 5

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: Deputy Deenihan — the serious concern expressed by Irish immigrant agencies in the US because of the drastic decrease in funding from immigrant services; Deputy Gregory — following revelations made on recent television programmes, that steps be taken by the Minister for Foreign Affairs to bring about an independent inquiry into the events that resulted in the deaths of 13 people in January 1972; Deputy M. Brennan — the issue of the long delay in payments of headage grants, including cattle headage, beef premium and suckler cow grants in Counties Sligo and Leitrim; Deputy Taylor-Quinn — whether further US airlines, other than the current operators on the routes, have proposals to fly into Dublin directly; and, if the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications will give details of (a) these airlines and (b) the safeguards, if any, he proposes to introduce in order to protect employment in the mid-west region; Deputy G. O'Sullivan — the serious concern being expressed by security forces regarding the smuggling of drugs along the south west coast of this country; Deputy Rabbite — the implications for development and funding of commuter rail services to the Clondalkin and Tallaght areas as a result of the announcement of plans to re-open the Harcourt Street line; Deputy Byrne — the problem being caused for both pupils and parents in the Crumlin, Drimnagh and Maryland districts by the decision of the Minister for Education not to approve the capital grants required to facilitate the amalgamation of the Marist Secondary School (girls) and the CBS (Coláiste Caoimhín); and Deputy McCartan — the urgent need for the Minister of State with responsibilities for public works to intervene to prevent the imminent demolition of Howth House, Dublin 13 and redevelopment of the entire site due to the threat to the integrity of the medieval site of St. Mary's Abbey, which constitutes a national monument.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies Gregory, Byrne and Taylor-Quinn.
