Vol. 415 No. 7

Written Answers. - Preparation of UN Environment Report.

Roger T. Garland

Ceist:

141 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for the Environment if, with regard to the preparation of the Irish national report for the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, he will list (a) the Government and non-government bodies which were consulted in the preparation of the report, (b) the number that were asked and (c) the number that actually responded; if he will outline (1) when these bodies were consulted and (2) the deadline for the submission of their contributions; and if he will further list the guidelines of the UNCED.

I refer to the reply to Question No. 15 of 5 February 1992.

Submissions for the purposes of the Irish national report for UNCED were invited by my Department in late 1990 from interested Government Departments and agencies and from a representative section of non-governmental organisations. All governmental bodies concerned have now contributed to the preparation of the national report. Information on the non-governmental organisations is set out in the table below. While no firm deadline was applied for receipt of submissions, the national report is now being finalised as a matter of urgency. The UN suggested guidelines for the preparation of national reports, which were sent to all bodies consulted, are available in the Oireachtas Library.

Following is the Table:
