Ceist:

38 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for the Marine when it is proposed that the wreck of the Bardini Reefer will be removed as it is a serious hazard to shipping at Castletownbere; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are no plans to move the wreck of Bardini Reefer due to the substantial cost involved.

Despite protracted correspondence between my Department and solicitors acting for the insurers, the latter are not prepared to finance the cost of removal of the wreck. This is not acceptable to me and the matter is being pursued further.

There have been no reports brought to my attention of accidents or collisions as a result of any possible hazard posed by the wreck.
