Vol. 415 No. 7

Written Answers. - Cardiac Ambulance Service.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

98 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will confirm reports in the Irish Medical Times dated 17 January 1992 that the administration of drugs by ambulance personnel is being considered by his Department.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

111 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to statements recently made by a person (details supplied) in University College, Cork, that the absence of a cardiac ambulance service in this country is one of the factors contributing to the high death rate from heart disease in Ireland; if he will ensure (a) that a comprehensive cardiac ambulance service will be set up as quickly as possible and (b) that there will be no further delays in bringing to a conclusion the review of the ambulance services by the review group.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 98 and 111 together. The Deputy has been advised by my predecessor on a number of occasions that all aspects of pre-hospital care will be examined by the review group who have been established to examine the ambulance service.

I will consider all the recommendations contained in their report when it is presented to me. However, as work on the review has only recently commenced it is not possible to indicate when these deliberations will be completed.
