Ceist:161 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education if he intends to place the NCCA on a statutory basis.
Vol. 415 No. 9
161 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education if he intends to place the NCCA on a statutory basis.
162 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education if he will grant full assessment function to the NCCA as an educationally sound measure.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 161 and 162 together.
In so far as assessment is concerned the terms of reference of the national council provide that the council for curriculum and assessment would advise the Minister on assessment procedures for primary and second level education, would make recommendations on the standard of knowledge and skills to be attained and the methods of assessing performance relative to such standards and would report annually on the standards attained at the certificate examinations. There are no plans at present to widen the remit of the council in relation to assessment or to establish the council on a statutory basis.
