186 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment if he received communication from Kildare County Council setting out the local authority housing requirements at present; if he expects the local authority to meet the demand with the funds he is making available in the current year; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
In common with other housing authorities, Kildare County Council have submitted to the Department their requirements for the local authority housing construction programme for 1992. Housing authorities will be notified in the near future of the 1992 capital allocations for the programme. These will be determined on the basis of the capital available for the housing programme nationally and the competing needs of the different authorities. I am satisfied that the allocations, complemented by the various schemes outlined in A Plan for Social Housing, will represent a reasonable response to the housing needs of the area.
