Gerry O'Sullivan

Ceist:

89 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Education if he intends to raise the school leaving age to 16 years.

Joe Sherlock

Ceist:

90 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for Education if the Government have any plans to raise the school-leaving age from 15 to 16; if he will outline the implications of any such move for staffing and resources in schools; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Nora Owen

Ceist:

166 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education if he will make a statement on his proposals to raise the school-leaving age to 16 years of age; and if he will give details of the costs involved in these proposals.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 89, 90 and 166 together.

A proposal to raise the school-leaving age from 15 years to 16 will be considered in the context of the forthcoming Green Paper on Education. In these circumstances, I do not propose to elaborate on the matter at present.
