Vol. 416 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Disadvantaged Status.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

262 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education the reason the educational and socio-economic factors taken into account when considering an application from a school (details supplied) in County Cork for disadvantaged status, were not considered adequate in relation to the school.

All schools seeking disadvantaged status are assessed by reference to the factors mentioned. This enables the relative levels of disadvantage between schools to be established and provides a basis for listing schools in order of need.

Disadvantaged status is granted on the basis of priority of need within the limit of available resources. The school in question did not qualify for disadvantaged status on the above basis.
