Vol. 416 No. 6

Written Answers. - Sheepmeat Regime.

Frank Crowley

Ceist:

377 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food whether a quota will apply to sheep numbers for those applying for 1992 sheep subsidies and other grants, and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Discussions on the reform of the sheepmeat regime are ongoing at council level. The reform package for the sector includes the introduction of a quota. The reference year and other details have yet to be agreed. At this stage it is not possible to say if the reformed regime will apply from the 1992 marketing year.

In so far as sheepmeat is concerned the Common Agricultural Policy reform proposals relate only to the operation of the ewe premium scheme and to the payment of the rural world premium in disadvantaged areas.
