Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

421 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Social Welfare if grant assistance is available from his Department from national lottery funds for voluntary housing groups towards the costs of furnishings, fittings and other items.

The 1992 scheme of grants to voluntary bodies was advertised recently and it is open to voluntary housing groups to apply for a grant under this scheme.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

422 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will outline, (1) the moneys which are made available to his Department from the national lottery, (2) what these moneys are used for and (3) the way in which the money is allocated.

The amounts allocated by the Government to my Department from national lottery funding in 1992 are as follows: £0.75 million for the scheme of once-off grants to voluntary organisations; £0.50 million for a scheme of grants for locally based women's groups; £0.60 million for special grants to voluntary organisations which were announced in the context of the recent budget; £1.25 million for the Community Development Programme. This programme provides financial assistance to projects towards the cost of equipping and staffing local resource centres which provide a focal point for community development; and £0.26 million to set up a number of pilot projects aimed at building new and more comprehensive approaches to combating the problems of moneylending.

Details of the 1992 schemes of grants to voluntary organisations and grants for locally based women's groups were advertised recently in the national papers.
