Vol. 417 No. 1

Written Answers. - Special Taxi Licences.

John Stafford

Ceist:

226 Mr. Stafford asked the Minister for the Environment if, in relation to Statutory Instrument No. 272/91, as to the issue of new taxi licences, an amendment could be allowed so that special taxi plates could be issued to persons who would be prepared to cater for physically handicapped persons, particularly wheelchair bound passengers.

The question of reserving a number of taxi licences for vehicles which would meet the specific needs of disabled persons is being considered by an interdepartmental committee established to review the law applying to the operation of small public service vehicles generally. I expect the report of the committee to be submitted to me in the near future.
