Dublin County Council have been advised that, as a matter of policy, road grants are not normally made available to meet the cost of public lighting outside the 40 mile speed limit area and that lighting at isolated junctions, as proposed by the council in this case, is not considered to be good practice. The council's attention was drawn to a programme of low-cost engineering solutions for accident locations, which is operating with the help of the environmental research unit and it was suggested that the junctions in question should be reviewed in the context of that programme.
