Written Answers. - EC Regulations on Motorways.
Apart from Council Directive 85/337/EEC, under which environmental impact assessments are mandatory for proposed motorways, there are no EC Regulations specifically relating to the construction and operation of motorways as such. EC Regulations which apply to road construction generally include those relating to public procurement, material standards and publicity signs/ commemorative plaques where schemes are co-financed from the European Regional Development Fund.
