Vol. 417 No. 1

Written Answers. - CERT Courses Participants Placement.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

63 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Labour if he will outline the percentage of people who, having completed a training programme with CERT, are employed after, (a) six months, (b) twelve months and (c) two years; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Data in the format requested by the Deputy are not collected by CERT.

100 per cent of those who complete formal craft courses with CERT are immediately placed in employment while 84 per cent of trainees who complete basic skills courses for the unemployed find immediate employment in the industry.

CERT monitor the labour market experience of their former trainees mainly through a survey carried out every four years. The most recent survey was published in 1990. The survey covered those who had completed CERT craft training courses between 1966 and 1988. The results showed that 76 per cent of all those who had trained prior to 1982 and 84 per cent of all who had trained since then were still employed in the industry in 1989.
A survey carried out by CERT of trainees who completed the basic skills courses for the unemployed between May 1990 and June 1991, showed that 66 per cent of respondents were in employment three months after completing the course.
