77 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Labour if he will give details of the present number of young people on work exchanges/work experience programmes in other countries; if he will outline the names of these countries and the total cost of the programmes; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
The information requested, in so far as it relates to programmes under the auspices of agencies associated with my Department, is as follows: 12 people are participating on a FÁS EC Young Worker Exchange Programme in Germany. The total cost of the programme is being borne by the German hosting organisation and the participants themselves; 15 people are participating on a work placement in Germany, and four in Belgium, at a total cost of £39,000 to CERT.
Under the Wider Horizons Programme of the International Fund for Ireland, a total of 114 people are on work placement abroad at present as follows: 42 people are in the USA, 15 are in Canada, 40 are in France, 10 are in the Netherlands and 7 are in Germany.
The total cost is estimated at £1.7 million.
