Vol. 417 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Advisers.

John V. Farrelly

Ceist:

116 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Education if he will outline the following details in respect of the advisers appointed by his Department: (a) salary (b) conditions of employment (c) pension entitlements/annuities (d) travelling expenses and (e) specific duties to be performed by these people; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Two appointments have been made in my Department, one to the position of special adviser to the Minister and one to the position of temporary assessor/adviser in the youth section. The appointments, which are to temporary, unestablished positions in the Civil Service, are in accordance with the standard conditions relating to such appointments and including superannuation entitlements, the non-contributory pension scheme for non-established State employees and the spouses' and childrens' contributory scheme for non-established State employees. The temporary assessor/adviser in the youth section is currently in receipt of a rate of pay of £26,000 per annum. The rate of pay of the special adviser to the Minister is currently under consideration. When absent from headquarters on duty, both advisers may be paid appropriate travelling expenses at standard Civil Service rates.
