Vol. 417 No. 5

Written Answers. - Farmed Salmon in Kerry Rivers.

Roger T. Garland

Ceist:

139 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for the Marine whether his attention has been drawn to the presence of farmed salmon in both the Roughty and Sheen rivers in Kenmare on 12 and 13 December 1991; if this matter was investigated by his Department; if so, if he will outline the results of this inquiry, and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the allegations to which the Deputy refers.

A detailed inspection of both the Roughty and Sheen rivers was carried out at the time in question by the South Western Regional Fisheries Board. No fish of farmed origin were found to be present in either river.
