Ceist:229 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Health if he will give details of the grants, if any, which his Department has made to assist Romanian orphanages; and whether he proposes to grant any more aid.
Written Answers. - Assistance for Romanian Orphanages.
I have not, to date, received any request from the Romanian Government for assistance in respect of their orphanages. The Deputy is probably aware that some officials within my Department took a purely personal initiative in assisting their counterparts in the Romanian Ministry for Health in formulating an application for assistance from the EC-Sponsored Phare Programme. The facilities of the Department have been made available in support of this initiative and I have been kept fully informed of developments. I am advised that the application is currently being considered by the Romanian Government.
