Co-operation between the Electricity Supply Board (ESB) and Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE), and more particularly the matter of cross-border electricity interconnection, has been the subject of discussions on a number of occasions within the framework of the Anglo-Irish Conference. Most recently, the 6 March meeting of the conference welcomed the decision that the ESB and NIE are joining together to improve the reliability of electricity supplies in the north west, which suffers from being at the extremity of both supply systems.
