Vol. 417 No. 5

Written Answers. - Telephone Inquiries by Public Representatives.

Seán Ryan

Ceist:

75 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Justice if he intends to reverse the directive of his predecessor which prevented any member of his Department, with the exception of his private staff, from talking to public representatives who contact his Department by telephone in relation to matters concerning their constituents; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It has been the policy of successive Ministers for Justice that telephone inquiries from public representatives to the Department should be directed to the Minister's office. I am satisfied that this arrangement is appropriate and is conducive to an efficient and co-ordinated response being provided to such inquiries.
