Vol. 417 No. 5

Written Answers. - EC Single Market.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

99 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will outline the steps which remain to be completed at EC and Irish levels to complete the Single Market of the European Community.

Of the 282 items in the Internal Market Programme, 63 items, including four which have been partially adopted, are awaiting adoption at Community level.

At national level, there are in excess of 80 Community measures, already adopted under the programme, which require transposition into Irish law. Thirty-seven of these are overdue, but the Government are committed to ensuring their implementation at the earliest possible date. The majority of the remainder will become due this year, with the balance coming into force in 1993 and after. It can be expected that most of the 63 items yet to be adopted will also require transposition into national law.
